When my husband and I embarked on that all-too-important, completely overwhelming task of endowing our unborn baby with a name, understandably we had a difficult time. Without going into detail about all the important things we took into consideration when creating our list, one thing I made sure to do was to check the most popular baby names for the past several years to make sure the name we chose wasn’t on it. We didn’t want her to grow up with 15 other little girls with the same name in her same class at school. So as I began to settle on Madilyn (and its various spellings), I noticed that “Madeline” had always been in an average position on those lists. Somewhere in the middle between 1-100. A classic that’s never too popular and never too unpopular. I felt good about my choice.
Tonight I see the list of most popular baby names in 2007 has come out. And guess who’s skyrocketed into the top 20? Yep. Madeline. At least we have a unique spelling of the name. I still love the name and believe it fits her well. I guess that’s what truly matters
