Simple Life or Full Life?

Catalyst Monthly, a newsletter for next generation ministry leaders, published an article I wrote for them this month. You can check it out here: "Simple Life or Full Life."

An excerpt: While the “simplicity” counterculture is touting the virtues of a life lived simply, the reason it fails to fulfill people’s lives is because it lacks an eternal perspective. That fact is our life here does count toward something eternal. Divorcing ourselves from the ebb and flow of everyday life isn’t going to solve our problems or alleviate our stress. We were created for more than this life. That subconscious hunger will constantly be searching for satisfaction.

Maybee the reason people have the latest cellphone, fancy cars & a house out of a martha stuart mag AND broken marriage, stressfull lives, working all the time is because they are putting their energies into the wrong thing. It's about balancing it out. Have a nice home but don't go out and buy a $1,500 light fixture, etc. Have a nice car, but does it have to be a benz? God doesn't want us to deny ourselves of shelter or live in a cardboard box but use some discression here. How can this author say it is not God's will for us to live a simple life. We are not suposed to build our wealth on this earth, but instead focus on building our riches in heaven. Our society is so wasteful. Most people have more living space than they need, more than people in a lot of other countries have. We waste food, buy clothes and throw them out, I believe God wants us to live a simple life, to live in the world (because we are here and must live) and not of the world(do not love the world and the things in it). Instead of insisting the best of the best, why not settle for good enough and know that you can't take your multimillion $$$ home to heaven, but know That there will be a mansion beyond your wildest dreams waiting when our sweet Lord and Savior comes for us. That's the christian way of life.
